The HEARTS project was designed to provide children with developmental disabilities and their families with timely, quality, and accessible health support where they need it most – in their community.

The project is being implemented from August 2024 to January 2027 , and is financed by the funds of the European Union through the Program Interreg Croatia – Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro , with the support of national funds.

The project is being implemented by partners from three countries who have many years of experience in working with children and families:

  • Vukovar-Srijem County Community Service Center – lead project partner
  • Vukovar-Srijem County Development Agency (Republic of Croatia)
  • Žepče Development Agency
  • Public institution Health Center with inpatient unit Žepče (Bosnia and Herzegovina)
  • Association of Parents of Children with Developmental Disabilities Podgorica (Montenegro)

The main goal of the project is early intervention – providing professional help to children as early as possible, in order to stimulate their cognitive, emotional and physical development. Timely support can have a great impact on a child’s development, the quality of family life and the child’s more successful inclusion in the community.

What does the project bring to children and families?

  • Mobile expert teams that visit families and provide support outside of healthcare institutions
  • An online platform with verified information, advice and the possibility of professional consultations
  • Better equipped health institutions and modern diagnostic methods
  • Education for experts and parents on early intervention and developmental difficulties
  • Advisory and psychosocial support to families in recognizing and understanding the needs of children

The HEARTS project creates a system where no child is alone, and parents have clear information, support and understanding. The project’s goal is to ensure that every child has equal opportunities for development , and every family feels safe and supported in their community.
